Rebel Soccer Travels To Southern Miss, UAB

The Rebels have begun the season with a pair of ties for the first time in school history. After Ole Miss and
"I think our players are excited and ready to hit the road,” head coach Steve Holeman said. “We’re looking to move forward from last weekend. I think we played well and did some positive things. Obviously we need to score, and that has been our focus this week in practice. We’re looking to implement that on Friday.”
The Rebels and in-state rival Golden Eagles will square off for the sixth time in the all-time series, with Ole Miss having defeated Southern Miss in all five of the previous contests. Last year’s match in
Southern dropped both matches in its opening weekend by 3-0 scores to LSU and Furman. The Golden Eagles are coming off a 4-13-1 campaign. The team returned five starters and 13 letterwinners, while welcoming 10 newcomers to the squad. Top returning goal scorer Sarah McFadden earned Tiger Invitational All-Tournament honors over the weekend.

On Sunday, Ole Miss will take on a UAB team coming off a Conference USA Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2006. The Blazers return six starters and 10 letterwinners from that squad, while adding nine newcomers.
The Blazers had a successful opening weekend, going 1-0-1 at the LQ Cup in
“UAB is a very talented team,” Holeman said. “They have good players and a good coaching staff that will have them ready and organized. They should provide a good early-season test for us on the road.”
