Andy Kennedy Postgame Quotes

1/2/2008 | Men's Basketball

On the intensity of the game:

“This could have been a game where our guys may have let their guard down. We’re approaching league play, and I think they are excited about the opportunity to play in the league. I have been pleased with our team. They have had a business-like approach. We have a pretty good system. We are getting better in several areas. Tonight was an opportunity to gain experience in several areas for our new guys and I thought our kids responded well.”

On the team getting in a rhythm:

“That was good. I am glad for them and that tonight we came out unscathed and guys got in a rhythm. Defensively, we are playing good, tonight we had some lapses in the second half, but that is going to happen. We had a comfortable margin. I feel sorry for Vann (Pettaway, Alabama A&M head coach). He had some guys hurt tonight and his key players weren’t at full strength.”

On David Huertas:

“I think David is just a little more relaxed. His rhythm and timing have gotten great. You have to remember that this is a kid that hasn’t played in the better part of two years. Early on, he was out of sync.”

On the start of league play:

“We know the challenges of league play. A lot of the so-called experts are saying that this is a down year for the SEC. I think that Florida has come down to mortality. They were unbelievable in a two-year span. They separated themselves in both the league and nationally with back-to-back national championships. They are still playing great with a new core of guys. I still think Tennessee can compete for a national championship. They have so many weapons.”
