Ole Miss Rifle Defeats Memphis, Falls To Kentucky

OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss rifle team spilt a pair of matches against Great America Rifle Conference foes Kentucky and Memphis over the weekend. The Rebels downed Memphis 4551-4530, but fell to Kentucky 4633-4551.

The Rebels were led by freshman Meredith Holman, who fired a career-best score of 585 to finish third overall in the air rifle. Junior Jessica Hornby fired an air rifle score of 579, while Shannon Wilson and Erica Swanson posted scores of 577 and 573, respectively.

“It wasn’t a total loss since we were able to knock off Memphis,” said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe. “I am very proud of the performance of Meredith Holman. She posted a very good score. We just have to become more consistent as a team.”

In the smallbore the Rebels were led by Wilson, who fired a score of 572. Swanson (563), Hornby (561) and Casey Phillips (539) rounded out the Rebels’ effort.

Ole Miss will host fellow GARC member Nebraska on Feb. 2 at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center in Oxford.
