KNOXVILLE, Tenn. The Ole Miss women’s golf team, led by senior Dori Carter, carded a 295 in the first round of the Mercedes Benz Championship Friday at the Fox Den Country Club, and stands in a tie for sixth heading into the second round.

Carter shot a 3-under 69 and is tied for fourth, one back of three players.  She posted five birdies, including three straight to begin the day.

Tennessee shot 283 and leads North Carolina (289) by six.  North Carolina State is third at 290, LSU stands fourth at 291, and Furman rounds out the top five at 294.

“We are proud of the team,” head coach Michele Drinkard said.  “We are doing a really good job of playing one shot at a time and continuing to create positive energy that is very infectious from one player to the next.

"After the round we relaxed with all of our families  in the travling grove’ and then had a great practice session preparing for Saturday.”

The Lady Rebels will tee off the second round beginning at 8:45 a.m. CT.  Fans can follow all the action by going to www.OleMissSports.com and clicking on the live scoring link in the calendar.
