Rifle Takes Second At Ole Miss Invitational

OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss rifle team took home second place on Sunday at the Ole Miss Invitational with a team aggregate score of 4574. The Rebels hosted the event at the Patricia C. Lamar National Readiness Center in Oxford and included nine collegiate teams.

Senior Jessica Hornby and sophomore Erica Swanson both led the way for the Rebels in the air rifle posting scores of 581. Sophomore Meredith Holman finished close behind with a score of 580 and freshman Keely Stankey rounded out the Rebel effort with a mark of 575. Ole Miss finished second in the air rifle with a team score of 2317 behind overall championship Jacksonville State.

The Rebels also finished second overall in the smallbore with a team score of 2257. Keely led the way for the Rebels with a mark of 576, which was the second-best individual mark of the tournament. Holman turned in a score of 566, while Hornby posted a mark of 556. Junior Colleen Tillson completed the Rebel line with a score of 559.

"All the hard work in practice paid off this weekend," said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe. "Everyone gave great efforts and had solid performances. We ran into some equipment challenges, but adapted well, and finished strong."

Up next, the Rebels will travel to West Point, N.Y. to face Army on Oct. 17 and West Virginia on Oct. 19.
