Rebel Basketball Opens Practice Friday

10/16/2008 | Men's Basketball

OXFORD, Miss. With the first exhibition just two weeks away, the Ole Miss men's basketball team will begin its preseason workouts on Friday, as Andy Kennedy's Rebels aim for a third straight 20-win campaign and postseason appearance.

With the program celebrating its 100th anniversary season, Ole Miss returns eight letterwinners and three starters from last year's squad that went 24-11 record, had a six-week stay in the national rankings and made their first-ever trip to the NIT Final Four. Leading the list of returnees is sophomore point guard Chris Warren, who paced the team in scoring (15.8 ppg) and shattered the school record for 3-pointers in a season and points by a freshman.

The NCAA allows teams to begin fall practice at 5 p.m. CT on Friday, and the Rebels will hold their first preseason session at Tad Smith Coliseum at 7 p.m following the women's team workout.

While practices are closed to the public, fans will have a chance to meet the Ole Miss coaches and players and get posters, schedule cards and autographs in The Grove on Saturday, Nov. 1, prior to the Auburn football game.

Ole Miss plays a Halloween exhibition game against North Alabama at 4 p.m. on Oct. 31 (free admission with a canned goods donation) before kicking off the regular season with a Nov. 14 contest against Arkansas State at 7 p.m. in Oxford.
