Netter Berg Advances To Quarterfinals At ITA Southeast Regional

LEXINGTON, Ky. Ole Miss men’s tennis senior Jonas Berg won both his matches on Saturday at the Lexington Tennis Center, to advance to the quarterfinals at the ITA Southeast Regional. 

In his first match, Berg topped Kentucky’s Brad Cox, 6-2, 6-4.  In the fourth round, the All-American played three grueling sets, before coming out on top against Auburn’s Tim Puetz, the No. 7 seed.  The first two sets went to tiebreakers, with Berg winning the first one and Puetz taking the second. 

Berg (10-2) claimed the decisive set 6-4 to move on to a quarterfinal meeting against the top seed, Miami’s Daniel Vallverdu.  Vallverdu has not dropped a set in any of his matches in the tournament. 

Senior Bram ten Berge downed Charlie Ramsay of Memphis 6-0, 6-2 in third round before falling to the No. 2 seed, J.P. Smith of Tennessee, 6-2, 6-2 in the fourth round. 

Junior Kalle Norberg played the No. 3 seed, Georgia’s Nate Schnugg, in a close affair, losing 7-5 in the third.  Norberg won the first set 6-4 and then dropped the second 6-1. 

The Southeast Region is the toughest region in the country, with seven teams finishing the 2008 season ranked among the Top 25.  The winner of the singles and doubles as well as the singles finalist, will earn a berth in the ITA National Indoor in November.
