Ole Miss Rifle Drops A Pair On The Road

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss rifle team dropped a pair of close matches on the road at West Point, N.Y. over the weekend. The Rebels dropped the first match to host Army on Friday then fell to West Virginia on Sunday in a neutral site affair.
The Rebels fell to Army by an aggregate team score of 4595-4589 on Friday. Ole Miss outscored the Black Knights 2318-2309 in the air rifle, but fell 2286-2268 in the smallbore. Senior Jessica Hornby led the way for the Rebels with a season-high of 586 in the air rifle. Sophomore Erica Swanson fired a 578 for the Rebels in the air rifle, while Meredith Holman and Keely Stankey both fired a 577 to round out the scoring.
In the smallbore, the Rebels were led by Stankey, who fired a total of 573. Junior Colleen Tillson finished close behind Stankey with a score of 572. Hornby fired a 569, while Holman posted a score of 554 to close out the Rebels' scoring.
Against West Virginia, the Rebels dropped the match by a team aggregate score of 4655-4565. The Mountaineers outscored Ole Miss 2319-2247 in the smallbore and 2336-2318 in the air rifle. Erica Swanson fired a career-high mark of 587 in the air rifle, besting her previous mark of 586 set earlier this year. Hornby posted a score of 584 for the Rebels and Holman fired a 577. Stankey posted a 570 for the Rebels' total.
Stankey once again led the Rebels in the smallbore posting a season-high mark of 574. Tillson fired a 564 for Ole Miss, while Hornby turned in a score of 557 and Holman posted a 552.
"I thought we made great progress this weekend," said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe. "We are getting closer. We posted pretty good scores, but Army and West Virginia just edged us out."
The Rebels will travel to El Paso, Texas this weekend to take on host school UTEP and Air Force.
