Amy Bayles Named SEC Offensive Player Of The Week

10/27/2008 | Soccer

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. After scoring a pair of goals in a 3-1 "Senior Day" win over Kentucky, Ole Miss senior midfielder/forward Amy Bayles was tabbed the Southeastern Conference Soccer Offensive Player of the Week Monday by the league office.

The Florence, Ala., native's first goal 33 seconds into the second half gave Ole Miss a 1-0 lead. Her second (and the eventual game-winner) came seven minutes later to give the Rebels a commanding 2-0 advantage. She fired off four shots, including three on-goal, against the Wildcats.

Bayles also had five shot attempts, with two on-goal, at Vanderbilt, helping the Rebels produce 22 total shots in the 0-0 tie on Thursday.

An All-SEC second team selection last season, Bayles has scored three goals on the year with one assist. On Sunday, she was honored with six other Rebel seniors in ceremonies prior to the Rebels' final home game of the season.

Bayles is the second Ole Miss player to earn a weekly conference honor, following Danielle Johnson's SEC Defensive Player of the Week accolades after wins over Auburn and Alabama earlier this month.

Ole Miss has moved up into seventh place in the overall league standings with one regular-season game remaining, an in-state showdown at Mississippi State this Friday at 7 p.m. An Ole Miss win would secure the 12th straight SEC Tournament berth for Steve Holeman's squad, which would tie Florida for the longest current streak in the league. The top eight finishers in the league standings advance to the tournament, which will be held Nov. 5-9 in Orange Beach, Ala.
