Andy Kennedy Postgame Quotes

10/31/2008 | Men's Basketball

Opening Statement:

"This game is played really a week earlier (than usual). We'll have the better part of three weeks under our belt, based on scheduling. I was trying to do this game in conjunction with a home football game. This is when we had to play it. I told the team that I'm glad that it worked out this way, because it exposed a lot of things that we as coaches have been telling them daily, and the kids kind of rolled their eyes. Our defensive intensity and our positioning needs a lot of work, but that's understandable when dealing with such a young team. Offensively, I think everybody could see that we're pretty talented. The areas of concern were that we turned it over too much, but that could be attributed to us subbing in and out. The personal fouls were ridiculous."

On the expectations of DeAundre Cranston:

"A lot has been made of the fact that we lost some wide bodies. He can give us some of those same qualities. He's a below-the-rim guy. He's an angle scorer, much like DC (Dwayne Curtis) was. The difference is he can extend out and make three-pointers. We think he gives us a body and a presence. He's got to understand the angles and the pace of the game."

On the rebounding edge:

"Well, it was something you would hope (would happen). We out-rebounded them by 30. North Alabama has a good basketball team. The reason we scheduled them is because we know they like to play fast. We knew pace wasn't going to be an issue. Based on the blessings that our kids have been given, I would hope that we could rebound the ball. I was more concerned with not taking care of the ball very well, and we just fouled way too much."
