MEMPHIS, Tenn. The Ole Miss Rebel rifle team claimed second place at the season-opening Tiger Invitational hosted by Memphis over the weekend. The Rebels fired a team air rifle total of 2312 and a smallbore total of 2205 for an aggregate score of 4517 to finish runner-up to the host Tigers.

Senior Jessica Hornby led the Rebels and finished second overall in the smallbore with a score of 566. Newcomers Keely Stankey and Colleen Tillson each contributed to the team smallbore total with scores of 565 and 564, respectively. Sophomore Erica Swanson rounded out the team score with a mark of 510.

Swanson paced the squad with a career-best mark of 585 in the air rifle, which was the fourth-best individual mark. Hornby finished close behind Swanson with a score of 584. Sophomore Meredith Holman and Tillson finished out the Rebels’ scoring with marks of 576 and 567, respectively.

“Erica had a fantastic air rifle mark,” said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe. “I am very proud of her. Overall, I am happy with our start. We still have a few things that we need to improve on, but we’re not far off from where we need to be.”

Up next, the Rebels will host the Ole Miss Invitational Oct. 10-12 at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center in Oxford.
