Rebel Netters Fall In Second Round Of All-American

TULSA, Okla. Ole Miss men’s tennis players Bram ten Berge and Jonas Berg advanced to the second round of singles at the D’Novo/ITA All-American Championships before falling Thursday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

 

ten Berge won his first round match 6-4, 6-4 against Houston Barrick of Virginia.  Later in the afternoon, he fell to Ohio State’s Justin Kronauge in the second round.  After jumping out to a big lead in the opening set, ten Berge saw his opponent come storming back to tie the set at 5-5.  Kronauge, the No. 8 in seed in the tournament, would end up winning it 7-6(5) and then go on to claim the second set 6-1.

 

Berg got by Andres Arango of Arizona in the first round in three sets.  He won the first set 6-3, before dropping the second 6-4.  Berg edged Arango 6-4 in the third to advance to the second round, where lost a very tight battle to Stanford’s Alex Clayton, seeded No. 4.  The first two sets went to tiebreakers, with Berg winning the first one.  Clayton would go on to take the match 6-4 in the third.

 

Junior Kalle Norberg had also qualified for the main draw, but had to withdraw due to injury. 

 

In doubles, Berg and ten Berge were supposed to play the New Mexico State team of Eduardo Salas and Roman Stoisavljevic, but the match was postponed until Friday at 10 a.m.    

 

The All-American features many of the nation’s top players and began with the prequalifying tournament last weekend and continued with the qualifying tournament Monday Wednesday.
