Andy Kennedy Postgame Quotes
11/23/2008 | Men's Basketball
On the game:
"We knew it would be a hard-fought game. I hope our team learned some things. We play so many freshmen, they're still learning. I hope we can take some things from this game and improve. I'm proud of them for grinding it out and coming through with the win."
On pulling out a close win:
"I think until they're in a pressure-paced situation like tonight, you don't know how they're going to respond. It is an incredible learning opportunity for our new guys. We needed veterans like Chris (Warren) and David (Huertas) to step up, and that's what they did."
On being out-rebounded:
"We had a hard time on the glass. We were just a step late all night. Marshall had a junior and senior on their front line. Markel Humphrey is an all-league type player. They went to the glass with a sense of urgency that you expect when you've lost two straight games. We knew with our young guys that we would be vulnerable down low, but I didn't expect it to be this dry. We need to have some guys step up on our front line. We've got to keep working. In the second half we were better defensively, but we still need to do a better job on the defensive boards."
On the team's overall youth:
"It's a work in progress. These young guys, they were in high school at this time last year. They had never seen a scouting report, they hadn't been through the day-in, day-out grind. I'm proud of getting this win, and I hope our young guys can learn from it."
On the upcoming week of home games:
"We have two huge games this week, Central Florida on Wednesday and Morgan State on Saturday. Hopefully it will be good to be back in the friendly confines (of Tad Smith Coliseum). We need lots of people to come out and support us."
