Ole Miss Rifle Tops Murray State

MURRAY, Ky. The Ole Miss rifle team, propelled by a career-high mark of 574 in the smallbore by sophomore Meredith Holman, knocked off Murray State over the weekend by a team aggregate score of 4556-4539.
Holman's mark of 574 bested her pervious high of 571 set last season against N.C. State. Senior Jessica Hornby added to the Rebel smallbore line with a score of 569, while sophomore Stacie Leatherman added a score of 568. Freshman Keely Stankey posted a mark of 565 and junior Colleen Tillson closed out the Rebel line with a mark of 564. Ole Miss out shot Murray State 2266-2238 in the smallbore.
Holman also paced the Rebels with a 583 in the air rifle, which is just two points off her career high. Hornby posted a mark of 570, while Stankey finished with a score of 569. Sophomore Erica Swanson closed out the Ole Miss scoring in the air rifle with a mark of 568.
"Meredith had a great day," said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe. "I was really proud of how she competed. We shot the smallbore really well, but didn't finish as strong in the air rifle. I would have liked to have shot the air rifle better, but it is nice to get a win."
The Rebels do not compete again until January, when they kick off the second half of the season against Nebraska and TCU on Jan. 23-24 in Lincoln, Neb.
