Rebel Duo Advances At ITA National Indoor

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Jonas Berg and Bram ten Berge of the Ole Miss men's tennis team kept their perfect record intact Thursday, advancing to the second round of the ITA National Indoor with a 9-7 win over Oklahoma State's Nathan Byrnes and Oleksandr Nedovyesov in the first round at the Boar's Head Sports Club.

At last year's tournament, Berg teamed up with former three-time All-American Erling Tveit, but the two were knocked out in the first round. Experience in big matches certainly paid off for Berg and ten Berge, seeded No. 4, as they survived an early break against the OSU duo and went on to claim two breaks of their own for the win.

"We got down a break early, but we just tried to keep ourselves in it," ten Berge said. "We broke back at 4-3. After that we got another break at 8-7. Certainly all four players weren't playing their best tennis, but we hung in there and got the win."

The ITA All-American Champions will now face Aexei Chijoff-Evans and Chris Clayton of Harvard in the quarterfinals Friday. The Harvard duo defeated a team from Denver, 8-4, to advance.

The ITA National Indoor features the nation's top men's and women's tennis players in the second national tournament of the year for singles and doubles.
