Murphy Holloway Named SEC Freshman Of The Week

12/29/2008 | Men's Basketball

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. Ole Miss forward Murphy Holloway has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

The Irmo, S.C., native produced a monster game against Florida A&M this past Monday, as he posted season highs with 15 points and 16 rebounds in the 86-63 win. It marked the first double-double by a Rebel this year. His 16 boards, the most by an Ole Miss player this season, helped the Rebels out-rebound the Rattlers by 25,47-22. The 6-foot-7 power forward also added three steals, two assists and a blocked shot in the contest.

Holloway is the first Rebel to earn a weekly honor from the conference office this season. Chris Warren was a three-time SEC Freshman of the Week selection a year ago.

Ole Miss takes on Southern Miss on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a neutral-site contest at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, Miss. Fans can order tickets through the Mississippi Coast Coliseum Box Office at 1-800-488-5252 or by visiting Ticketmaster.com.
