Ole Miss Drops Season Series With Home Loss To Auburn

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Ole Miss dug out of a 13-point deficit midway through the first half and took a 43-42 lead at halftime, but the Rebels could not maintain the advantage in a 90-78 loss to Auburn Saturday afternoon at Tad Smith Coliseum.

Quan Prowell scored 25 points as Auburn snapped a five-game losing streak Saturday. The Tigers (13-10, 3-7), shooting a season-best 63 percent from the floor, placed four players in double figures. DeWayne Reed scored 23 points while Rasheem Barrett and Frank Tolbert added 15 apiece.

Prowell was 11-of-15 from the field and added five assists, four steals and four rebounds. The Tigers finished 32-of-51 from the field, 10-of-20 from three-point range, including four by Reed.

 

Trevor Gaskins scored 15 for Ole Miss (17-7, 3-7), who dropped their fourth consecutive SEC game. David Huertas and Eniel Polynice had 13 points apiece.

 

The Tigers took the lead 53-51 on a three-point shot by Tolbert with 15:32 left and never trailed again. Auburn gradually pulled away, as Ole Miss never got closer than seven points in the final eight minutes.

 

Ole Miss led 43-42 at halftime, closing with a 19-9 run in the final five minutes. Huertas scored 11 points in the late flurry, wiping out 12-point leads by Auburn on two occasions.

 

The Rebels built their biggest lead, 47-42 with 18 minutes remaining, but Auburn responded with an 18-6 surge to get control. The Rebels never could significantly cut into the margin again.

 

Ole Miss was 30-of-58 from the field, 52 percent and outrebounded the Tigers 28-24. Auburn compensated by turning the ball over only 13 times and shooting well from the field.
