Ole Miss Hosts GARC Championships For Fourth-Consecutive Year

2/20/2008 | Rifle

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss will once again play host to this year's Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) Championships taking place at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center in Oxford this weekend Feb. 23-24.

The tournament marks the fourth-straight year that Ole Miss has hosted the conference championships. Ole Miss joined the GARC prior to the 2001-02 season.

"We're very excited to host the conference championships once again and that everyone wanted to come back," said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe.

The GARC boasts some of the best rifle programs in the country, including former national champions Army and West Virginia. Ole Miss joins the former title winners, as well as conference rivals Kentucky, Memphis, Nebraska, N.C. State, and Xavier, in the two day event.

The Rebels had a solid season in 2007-08, winning three matches including the NCAA sectional in Oxford.

"We really hope to end the season on a good note,” Boothe said. “We are going to continue to do the same things we have been doing and hope everything comes together.”

The premier shooting facility at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center was completed prior to the 2004 season, and the Rebels have already hosted three home matches and a NCAA sectional this season.

Competition commences at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday and runs through Sunday afternoon. The air rifle and smallbore competitions both begin on Saturday morning. The finals for smallbore will start at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and the finals for air rifle begin at noon on Sunday. Live scoring will be available on www.OleMissSports.com.
