Andy Kennedy Postgame Quotes

2/20/2008 | Men's Basketball

On the win:

“It seems like a long time since we’ve won. This win put some wind back in us. We still have a long way to go.”

On the mindset the team played with:

“We have to play with an edge. It’s the reason we had the start that we did and it’s the reason we are in the position we are now. We had lost some confidence. We can preach it and try to put it in them, but until you experience success it’s hard. Hopefully we gained some confidence tonight.”

On the play of the team:

“I thought Mississippi State came out with great energy early. But we were able to score and stay in striking distance. Once we settled in defensively, Mississippi State ended the half 4-of-20. We got some offense from our defense. I thought we started the second half with a lot of energy. We had some good possessions offensively and got some stops on defense. But, like all teams do, they went on a run. I was proud with how our team responded.”

On the Rebel defense:

“I thought Eniel Polynice did a good job on Jamont Gordon. Like all good players do, as the game was winding down, Jamont tried to take over. You are never going to stop a guy like him. You have to do the best you can to contain him. We tried to make him score. I thought we did a good job defensively.”
