Wilson Claims Title on Day One of GARC Championships

OXFORD, Miss. Ole Miss' Shannon Wilson took medalist honors in day one of the Great American Rifle Conference Championships Saturday, winning the individual smallbore title.
A senior from Fairfax Station, Va., Wilson shot a score of 680.7 to lead the field. The host Rebels totaled a score of 2,272, while Army claimed the team smallbore title with a 2,316.
"I am very proud of how we performed today," said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe. "We've never had a champion, so I couldn't be more excited for Shannon Wilson. I'm so proud of her for being the out-right champion. We have done pretty well in the smallbore all year and today was no exception. It was a great day."
The GARC Championships conclude Sunday with the air rifle portion of the competition. The tournament is being staged at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center in Oxford.
