Ole Miss Rifle Comes Up Short Against Nebraska

 

OXFORD, Miss. Falling a mere seven points short off the team’s season high, the Ole Miss Rebel rifle fell to Great America Rifle Conference foe Nebraska over the weekend, by a team aggregate score of 4606-4573.

“We can always make improvements, but I was very proud of the team’s performance,” said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe. “We had our chance to overtake a highly respected team in Nebraska, but they simply out-shot us. Now we just need to refocus on the upcoming NCAA qualifying matches.”

The Rebels were led by senior Shannon Wilson who fired an air rifle score of 586. Others shooting for Ole Miss included Jessica Hornby (579), Meredith Holman (576), and Casey Phillips (574).  Ole Miss finished with a team air rifle score of 2314, while Nebraska posted a score of 2334.

In the smallbore senior Shannon Wilson led the way yet again, with a score of 576. Stacie Leatherman (564), Jessica Hornby (561) and Erica Swanson (558) rounded out the Rebels’ smallbore roster. Ole Miss finished with a team smallbore score of2259 to Nebraska’s 2272.

Up next, Ole Miss will host a NCAA sectional on Feb. 12 at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center in Oxford.
