Ole Miss-Alabama Postgame Quotes
3/1/2008 | Men's Basketball
Ole Miss Head Coach Andy Kennedy:
On how the game ended:
“When (Senario) Hillman missed the three-point shot, I looked up and saw four seconds left and thought they were going to foul. I looked up and saw the clock stopped at 2.5 seconds, but the referees hadn’t stopped play. When they went to the scorer’s table, they called it a timing issue and the game was over. I thought we’d be at the foul line.”
On the performance of the team:
“I thought we played good offensively and aggressive defensively. We had a sense of urgency today. Shooting 75 percent in the second half, you would hope to outscore your opponent, but no one is going to quit at this time.
On the play of David Huertas:
“David (Huertas) was tremendous today. Throughout the season, he has played a little outside of himself, but today he got into a rhythm and knocked down some shots. He’s a very passionate player, who tries very hard.”
On the remainder of the season:
"This is our last stand. We haven’t protected our home floor like I would have liked this season, but we did that today. It’s not over until we’re told it’s over. It’s up to the guys on the floor."
Alabama Head Coach Mark Gottfried:
On the end of the game:
“We got the steal, had a good shot, missed the shot and then made the foul with 4.5 seconds left. I’m confused as to why we didn’t get to play the final 4.5 seconds. It was an obvious foul. Our guy wrapped up (Dwayne) Curtis. Everybody stopped. All the players were stunned. It was a bizarre situation. Give Ole Miss credit. They did enough to win the game.”
On the play of
“We did a lot of things right today. There are a lot of positives that we can take away from this game. Our bigs got in foul trouble and weren’t as aggressive in the second half guarding the post. Our defense was good in the first half, but we were tentative in the second half. Demetrius (Jemison) made some great plays, and Mykal (Riley) made some big shots, but the end of the game was hard to grasp.”
On the play of Ole Miss:
“(Chris) Warren and (Dwayne) Curtis were the difference makers in the game.
STATEMENT BY OFFICIAL DOUG SHOWS:
“There was a game clock malfunction. By rule, we are required to go to the television monitor. On the replay, we determined that time had expired, because the clock had stopped at 2.5 seconds. We utilized all video and timing devices we had available to us.”
