Three Rebels Earn SEC Postseason Awards From League Hoops Coaches

3/11/2008 | Men's Basketball

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. Ole Miss senior center Dwayne Curtis was voted All-SEC second team by the league coaches, while guards Chris Warren and Trevor Gaskins represent the Rebels on the SEC All-Freshman team, the Southeastern Conference office announced Tuesday.

Curtis, who ranks second in the SEC in rebounding (9.3) and second on the team in scoring (14.7), earns All-SEC honors for the second time in his career. He was an All-SEC honorable mentison pick by the Associated Press as a sophomore. The Chicago native tied for the SEC lead with nine double-doubles in conference play and ranks second with 15 double-doubles in all games.

Warren was a unanimous selection to the SEC All-Freshman squad. The 5-foot-10 Orlando native pours in a team-high 15.7 points per game and ranked ninth in the league with 17.1 points per SEC contest. He ranks among the top five freshmen in the SEC in scoring, assists, three-pointers and steals.

Gaskins earned a spot on the All-Freshman team after averaging 6.5 points per game during the regular season. The long-ball threat was pivotal in the win over Florida, scoring a career-high 19 points and draining 3-of-5 from behind the arc. He also poured in 15 points and went 3-for-5 from long range versus Auburn.

Curtis and Warren also received the same honors from Rivals.com on Monday, while Curtis has been named to the NABC All-District second team as well.

With its NCAA Tournament hopes still very much alive, Ole Miss takes on Georgia on Thursday in the first round of the SEC Tournament in Atlanta at 9:45 p.m. ET. The game will be televised live from the Georgia Dome by Raycom Sports.
