Ole Miss-Nebraska Postgame Quotes

3/24/2008 | Men's Basketball

Ole Miss Head Coach Andy Kennedy

On the game:

“We knew this game was going to be a battle for 40 minutes. Anytime a team is in a lose-or-it’s-over game, the team with the most pride usually comes out on top. Nebraska is a tough team. We knew they weren’t going away. They made some big plays late and sent the game into overtime. Our kids responded the way they needed to and made a couple of more plays to win.”

On the play of Zach Graham:

“That’s the Zach Graham we recruited. We’ve seen glimpses of what he can do all season, but we haven’t seen the consistency. He’s explosive. This was the most productive game of his career. He did a great job of finishing through contact.”

On the significance of the NIT:

“As a competitor you want to win. Obviously we were disappointed by not making the NCAA tournament, but now it is all about our seniors. We want to give them an opportunity to go out on top. We want to give them an opportunity to win.”

On Virginia Tech:

“I have watched them as a casual fan, but do not know a lot about them. I do know they are very athletic. Many people think they were the bridesmaid for the NCAA tournament. When we travel to Blacksburg, it will be a hostile environment. I wouldn’t have it any other way. One of the struggles of this team all year was our inability to break through on the road consistently. I think this is the perfect opportunity for us to take the next step.”

Nebraska Head Coach Doc Sadler

On the game:

“Give Ole Miss credit. Their whole team was aggressive when it mattered the most. Not just Zach (Graham), but (Eniel) Polynice, (Chris) Warren and (Dwayne) Curtis. They all played great. We didn’t stop anybody in overtime. Ole Miss was the more aggressive team on the offensive end of the floor.”

On the keys to the game:

“You can’t give up 40 points in the first half and 15 points in overtime like we did and expect to win the game. Give Ole Miss and Coach Kennedy credit. We couldn’t stop them defensively in overtime and that was the difference in the game.”
