Postgame Quotes

3/4/2008 | Men's Basketball

Ole Miss Head Coach Andy Kennedy:

On the play of Dwayne Curtis

“He is our most consistent performer. We really need that out of our upperclassmen. He seems more animated, which is a good thing. I think now he understands that every game is one less that he will have to play and lead this young group, and I think he is doing a great job.”

On containing Sonny Weems

“I don’t think we did anything really different. We had Eniel Polynice on him to start, because he is our best defensive perimeter player. In the second half, we moved him to Patrick Beverly because he was starting to kill us. We just tried to very conscience of where he was.”

On heading to Georgia

“We have to break through on the road. We would love to play all of our games here, but that’s not how it works. If only we can just carry a little of this magic on the road. We just have to play efficiently on offense and annex the state of Georgia.”

On the final three minutes of the game as compared to past games

“We have been through those situations, like the one we just had with Alabama, and I would hope that we have learned some things. Immediately, our guys are running to the ball, and they just don’t understand that the initial inbounds pass is the key. You just don’t want to run to the ball and shorten the floor for their defense. We tried to make some adjustments, and our initial inbounds pass was better.”

Arkansas Head Coach John Pelphrey:

On the game:

“First, give Ole Miss credit. They played hard, and they played well. They ran by us in the first half and shot well in transition. We settled down in the second half and cut the game close. We had a chance, but didn’t make plays in the second half when we needed them.”

On the play of Ole Miss:

“They (Ole Miss) did a good job of running their pick and roll and finding the open man. They made the timely plays that we couldn’t make. (Chris) Warren and (Dwayne) Curtis are two really good players. (Eniel) Polynice is as good as anyone in our league at driving the ball. Ole Miss made the big shots when they needed to make them.”

On Brian Smith:

“It’s hard to believe that Brian Smith is a senior in college. I remember when I was a senior [at Kentucky], him and his brothers were running around at our practices. I’m proud for him and his family.”

On if Arkansas has made progress:

“No, we are not where we want to be. We had a chance in the second half, but didn’t make the plays that we needed to make.”
