Dwayne Curtis To Participate In All-Star Showcase

4/7/2008 | Men's Basketball

PORTSMOUTH, Va. After completing his stellar career with Ole Miss in the semifinals of the NIT, senior center Dwayne Curtis looks to take his game to the next level when he participates in this week's Portsmouth Invitational Tournament alongside the top college seniors in the country.

Curtis is one of 64 seniors selected to play in this year's tournament, which is the 56th annual P.I.T., making it the nation's oldest amateur basketball tournament. Over 200 representatives from the NBA and foreign leagues will be in attendance to evaluate the players, who are divided into eight teams and guaranteed at least three games from Wednesday-Saturday.

In three seasons as a Rebel, Curtis finished as the school's all-time leader in field-goal percentage and amassed the sixth-most rebounds and 18th-most points in program history. The Chicago native was a two-time All-SEC and All-District selection and this year grabbed the most rebounds in a season in school history.

Among the field are 10 SEC players, including Kentucky's Ramel Bradley and Joe Crawford, Tennessee's Chris Lofton and JaJuan Smith, Auburn's Quan Prowell, Alabama's Mykal Riley, Mississippi State's Charles Rhodes and Arkansas' Darian Townes and Sonny Weems.

Recognized by NBA and European scouts as the premier showcase for future professional players, the P.I.T. is the only tournament for college seniors to participate in and be evaluated prior to the NBA's pre-draft camp in Orlando.
