4/7/2008 | Rifle

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Ole Miss freshman Meredith Holman completed an excellent weekend by placing tenth out of 94 shooters in the air rifle at the U.S. Junior Olympic Championships. Holman shot a combined score of 781 in the event.

Holman fired a score of 391 on day one, followed by a 390 clip on day two. She finished the championships only two spots out of the finals.

“We’re really thrilled for Meredith,” said Ole Miss rifle head coach Valerie Booth. “To perform that well at such a high level is very exciting. We are really looking forward to having such a great talent with us for three more years.”

Holman’s tenth-place finish is the highest mark since Shannon Wilson won gold in the smallbore in 2006. This weekend marked the first time Holman had competed in the Junior Olympics. She is the twelfth athlete to represent Ole Miss in the U.S. Junior Olympics.
