5/12/2008 | Men's Basketball

OXFORD, Miss. Ole Miss All-SEC center Dwayne Curtis can add another piece of hardware to his mantle, as he was recognized over the weekend as the winner of the Fans’ Choice portion of the voting for the Cellular South Howell Trophy.

Each year the Howell Trophy is presented to the top male college hoops player in the state of Mississippi. The finalist with the most fan votes receives a trophy, and his school’s athletic department is awarded a gift from Cellular South.

Curtis was honored during pregame festivities of the Ole Miss-Auburn baseball game on Friday, where he also threw out the first pitch. Also prior to the game, Cellular South presented UMAA with a check for $2,500 in recognition of Curtis’ achievement.

It was an eventful weekend for Curtis, who also received his bachelor’s degree in family and consumer sciences during graduation ceremonies on Saturday. Fellow senior Brian Smith also graduated on Saturday with a bachelor’s degree in journalism.
