Lady Rebels End Run At NCAA Doubles Championship

TULSA, Okla. Senior Nika Koukhartchouk and freshman Karen Nijssen of the Ole Miss women’s tennis team ended their run in the NCAA Doubles Championship Friday, falling in two sets to Duke’s Amanda Granson and Melissa Mang (5-8) at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. 

 

Koukhartchouk and Nijssen, ranked No. 32 in the nation, led 5-3 in the opening set, but couldn’t hang on, as Granson and Mang broke at 5-5 and served out to take the set 7-5.  They broke at 4-4 in the second to go on and win 6-4. 

 

The Reb duo ended the season with a 15-9 overall record, including finishing 8-3 in the SEC at No. 1 doubles. Nijssen earned All-SEC second team honors, as well as being named to the All-Freshman Team.

 

This marked the first NCAA individual appearance for both Koukhartchouk and Nijssen, who are the sixth and seventh players to qualify for the NCAA Individual Championships under head coach Mark Beyers.
