Rebel Netters Named To ITA Collegiate All-Star Team
6/17/2008 | Men's Tennis
The ITA Collegiate All-Star Team dates back to 1984 and includes the nation’s top-ranked men’s and women’s tennis players from the season-ending ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings at the NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and NJCAA levels, as well as champions from the previous season’s ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships and NCAA Championships.
Tveit and Berg finished up an outstanding year ranked No. 3 in the nation in doubles, including reaching the NCAA Final in May. The All-Americans posted a 31-10 overall record after teaming up together for the first time this past year.
Their NCAA runner-up finish concluded another excellent campaign by the Rebels, who won their seventh consecutive SEC West title, the 2008 SEC Tournament Championship, advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight and ended the year ranked No. 6 nationally.
Tveit, who completed a stellar career in 2008, and Berg, a rising senior on the team, became the fourth and fifth Rebels to be named to the ITA Collegiate All-Star team, joining 1995 NCAA Doubles Champions Mahesh Bhupathi and Ali Hamadeh and two-time All-American Sebastien DeChaunac (1998).
The 2008 ITA Collegiate All-Star Team will be honored in August during Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day at the USTA
