Danielle Johnson Tabbed Preseason All-SEC

8/13/2008 | Soccer

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. The Southeastern Conference unveiled its second annual Soccer Coaches Preseason All-SEC team on Wednesday, and Ole Miss defender Danielle Johnson has been selected to the 12-member squad.

The junior by way of Baton Rouge, La., was tabbed All-SEC and All-Central Region in each of her first two seasons with the Rebels. An anchor for the Ole Miss defense, Johnson has started all 40 contests in her career and last season played nearly every minute of every match, sitting for just 10 minutes all year. In 2006, she became the fourth Freshman All-America selection in program history.

Johnson is the second Rebel to be named to the Preseason All-SEC team, following Chrissy Strini’s selection a year ago.

The team consists of a minimum of 11 players. Each SEC head soccer coach voted for three forwards, three midfielders, three defenders, one goalkeeper and one at-large candidate. No ties were broken.

Ole Miss will travel to Birmingham, Ala., for an exhibition match against Samford this Saturday before opening the 2008 regular season on the road at Western Kentucky on Friday, Aug. 22. The Rebels' home opener is Friday, Sept. 5 against Memphis.
