Holman Leads Rebel Rifle On The Road

LINCOLN, Neb. Sophomore Meredith Holman fired a career-best mark of 590 in the air rifle, but it wasn’t enough as the Ole Miss rifle team dropped a pair of close contests to host Nebraska and TCU over the weekend.

 

Holman fired a 590 to lead the Rebels against Nebraska on Friday, but the Cornhuskers out shot Ole Miss 4591-4579 to take the match. Sophomore Erica Swanson posted a score of 579, while freshman Keely Stankey tallied a score of 575. Senior Jessica Hornby turned in a mark of 571 to round out the Rebels’ air rifle scoring.

 

Hornby also led the way for the Rebels with a score of 570 in the smallbore. Stankey followed with a score of 566 and Holman posted a mark of 564. Junior Colleen Tillson also added a 564 to the team’s efforts.

 

On Saturday, the Rebels dropped a close match to TCU by an aggregate score of 4619-4573. Holman once again led the way for the Rebels with a score of 584 in the air rifle. Swanson added a score of 581, while Stankey posted a 575. Hornby closed out the Rebels’ line with a mark of 568.

 

Stankey led the Rebels in the smallbore with a mark of 572, while Hornby posted a 568. Holman and Tillson closed out the Rebel scoring in the smallbore with marks of 563 and 562, respectively.

 

“Meredith had a tremendous weekend,” said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe. “She put together two great scores and earned a career-high mark. We had a solid weekend and put together some good individual efforts, but we just didn’t have the team score. We’ve got to just keep plugging away.”

 

Next up, Ole Miss will host N.C. State and Kentucky for two matches on Jan. 30 and 31 at the Patricia C. Lamar National GuardReadiness Center in Oxford.
