Rebels Pull Away Late To Beat Colonels

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss used a late second-half surge to claim a 53-41 win over Nicholls in both teams' first game of the 2009 calendar year.
David Huertas and Murphy Holloway scored 14 and 10 points, respectively, to lead the Rebels.
The Rebels (9-5), trailing 28-25 early in the second half, dominated the final 15 minutes with scoring runs of 13-2 and 12-2 to pull away. Ole Miss was 19-of-38, 50 percent, from the field, including an 8-of-12 performance by Huertas and Holloway.
Ryan Bathie and Anatoly Bose scored 10 points apiece for the Colonels (6-6). Nicholls, relying heavily on the perimeter shot, was only 5-of-26 from three point range and finished 15-of-49, 31 percent, from the field.
Ole Miss led 25-22 at halftime.
Nicholls took its only lead, 28-25 with 17:40 left, on consecutive baskets by Fred Hunter.
The Rebels answered with a 13-2 run, including to build an insurmountable 38-30 lead with 6:53 left. Malcolm White had six points in the decisive surge and Nicholls never got closer than five points again.
