OXFORD, Miss. - Members of the Ole Miss men's tennis team are headed to Tulsa, Okla., this weekend for the ITA D'Novo All-American Championships. The year's first national event begins on Saturday with pre-qualifying singles at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
That is where Junior Tucker Vorster, sophomores Marcel Thiemann and Chris Thiemann and freshman Adrian Forberg Skogeng will begin competition. Vorster will then team up with Forberg Skogeng in the doubles qualifying early next week.
Players must win three rounds to advance to the qualifying singles, which begin Monday. The main draw begins Thursday, Oct. 8.
The Rebels began the year with success, going 14-5 in singles and doubles at the prestigious Napa Valley Tennis Invitational. Vorster went undefeated (6-0) in singles and doubles.
"We got the year off to a great start, and now we are looking forward to continuing our success at one of the top individual tournaments in the country," head coach Billy Chadwick said. Many of the nation's top players are featured at this tournament."
The Rebels have had recent success at the D'Novo All-American Championships. Last year former All-Americans Jonas Berg and Bram ten Berge won the doubles title, while former SEC Player of the Year Catalin Gard captured the singles championship in 2004.
