Ole Miss Vaults Into Soccer America Top 25 Poll

10/5/2009 | Soccer

OXFORD, Miss. - A monumental 3-2 double-overtime win over No. 7 Florida on Sunday vaulted Ole Miss into the nation's top 25, as Soccer America included the Rebels at No. 24 in its national poll on Monday.

It's the first time this year that Ole Miss has been nationally ranked and the first time since the 2006 season. Steve Holeman's squad is 8-3 overall with a 2-1 mark in Southeastern Conference play.

"It's nice for our girls to be nationally recognized," Holeman said. "It's great for the team and our program. We have to continue to play hard and show that we deserve it against some very strong teams in the SEC."

Ole Miss is joined in Soccer America's poll by three other SEC clubs - South Carolina (8), LSU (15) and Georgia (16).

After facing a pair of top 10 foes this past weekend, the upcoming schedule doesn't let up as Ole Miss embarks on a five-game road swing that begins at No. 16 Georgia on Friday (televised by Fox Sports South) and traditional SEC East power Tennessee on Sunday (ESPNU).
