Rebel Netters Advance To Qualifying At All-American

TULSA, Okla. -- All four members of the Ole Miss men's tennis team won two matches on Sunday at the ITA D'Novo All-American Championships to advance to the qualifying tournament, which begins Monday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Chris Thiemann was the first to advance, besting Steven Williams of Ohio State 7-5, 6-1 in the final round. Earlier in the day, Thiemann defeated Matheus Pereira of Wichita State 6-4, 6-3.
Freshman Adrian Forberg Skogeng continued his solid play this fall winning two huge tiebreakers in his matches to advance. In the first match, the Norway native defeated Darren Walsh of SMU 7-6(2), 6-2. The final match against the fourth seed, Juan Gomez of San Diego State, would come down to a supertiebreaker, which Forberg Skogeng won 15-13 to remain undefeated at 6-0.
The other Thiemann, Marcel, won both his matches in straight sets to move on. In the first match, he downed North Carolina State's Rob Lowe 6-2, 6-1 and then in the final round, Thiemann topped Matej Zlatkovic of Illinois State 6-1, 7-5.
Junior Tucker Vorster made it a clean sweep for the Rebels, finishing off the No. 2 seed, Leo Rosenberg of Hawaii, 6-3, 6-2 to get through. Earlier in the day, Vorster beat Jason Zafiros (Arizona State) 6-3, 6-3 and is now 7-0 on the year.
All four will also compete in the qualifying doubles. Vorster and Forberg Skogeng will team up for the first time, joining the Thiemann twins.
The ITA D'Novo All-American Championships is the year's first national championship event. Players must win three matches to advance to the main draw, which begins Thursday.
