10/6/2009 | Men's Tennis
TULSA, Okla. - The Ole Miss men's tennis team continues to roll at the ITA D'Novo All-American Championships, as three players advanced to the final round of qualifying singles Tuesday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Rain played havoc on the tournament, forcing matches inside, but that didn't dampen the play of the Rebels.
Freshman Adrian Forberg Skogeng defeated the No. 4 seed, Tobias Wernet of Minnesota, 6-2, 7-6(3). Forberg Skogeng, who improved to 8-0 on the year, will face Matt Kecki of Southern California with a berth in the main draw on the line.
Marcel Thiemann won a three-setter against Johnny Hamui of Florida. Thiemann won the first and third sets 6-3, while Hamui took the second 6-4. Next up for Thiemann is Drew Courtney of Virginia.
Tucker Vorster also remained undefeated, holding off Kiryl Harbatsiuk of Sacramento State in three tight sets. After splitting the first two sets, Vorster served out the match at 6-5 in the third to win it 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 for his ninth consecutive victory. He will meet the No. 2 seed, Jaak Poldma of Southern California, in the final round.
Vorster and Forberg Skogeng posting also advanced to the final round of qualifying doubles. In the first round, they defeated Achim Ceban and Juan Gomez of San Diego State 8-6.
