Rebels Conclude Play At HEB Baylor Invitational

WACO, Texas -- The Ole Miss women's tennis team concluded play at the HEB Baylor Invitational Sunday, with Connor Vogel winning the consolation singles title, and Abigail Guthrie falling in the semifinals of the main draw.
Guthrie, seeded No. 6, dropped a three-setter to third-seeded Elze' Potgieter of Texas A&M. After winning the first set 6-2, Guthrie saw Potgieter come back to win the second and third sets 6-1, 6-3. Guthrie ends the fall at 13-2.
Vogel rebounded after an opening round loss on Friday, to four consecutive wins, including two straight-set victories on Sunday. In the semifinals, she downed Catalina Cruz of North Texas 6-0, 6-3. In the final, Vogel defeated Julie Chao of Rice 6-2, 6-2.
Most of the team is done for the fall, except for sophomore Kristi Boxx and junior Karen Nijssen. Boxx earned an at-large bid in singles to the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor, which begins Thursday in New Haven, Conn. She will also team up with Karen Nijssen in the doubles, after the two earned a berth as champions of the Southern Regional.
