OXFORD, Miss. - After a stellar season that saw the Ole Miss women's soccer team make its fourth NCAA Tournament appearance, the Rebels were recognized Tuesday for their outstanding work in the classroom when they received the Team Academic Award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Steve Holeman's team, which amassed a 3.22 grade point average during the 2008-09 academic year, was one of nine Southeastern Conference squads that posted a GPA of 3.0 or better and received the NSCAA honor. It is the fifth time in the last nine seasons that Ole Miss has won the award.

Alabama (3.19 GPA), Arkansas (3.29 GPA), Auburn (3.12 GPA), Florida (3.31 GPA), Georgia (3.28 GPA), Kentucky (3.28 GPA), South Carolina (3.25 GPA) and Vanderbilt (3.32 GPA) were also among the 327 women's teams honored by the NSCAA.

A month ago, four Ole Miss players were named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Danielle Johnson and Kelsey Breathitt made the second team, while Alley Ronaldi and Meredith Snow were third-team honorees.
