Chris Warren Named Cousy Award Candidate

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Ole Miss junior Chris Warren is one of 50 Division I candidates for the 2010 Bob Cousy Award, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Wednesday.
The annual award, named for Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic Bob Cousy, recognizes college basketball's top point guard and is presented by The Hartford Financial Services.
Warren is one of 50 Division I candidates and 72 candidates from all divisions I, II and III. The Rebels' 5-foot-10, 168-pound floor general currently ranks second among SEC players with 19.2 points per game. He led Ole Miss to a 91-81 overtime victory against UTEP Wednesday night with a career-high 32 points, including five 3-pointers and a career-high 13 free throws.
The Orlando, Fla., native was a member of the SEC All-Freshman team when he set the Ole Miss record with 103 3-pointers in a season, and he was averaging 19.6 points per game as a sophomore before suffering a season-ending knee injury in the 11th game of the year. He enters the weekend just 38 points shy of 1,000 for his career.
This original list of Cousy Award candidates will be narrowed down to a final 20 by Jan. 1, final 10 by Feb. 1 and final five by March 1. A Hall of Fame appointed screening committee will be narrowing down the candidates from 20 to 10 to five prior to the Blue Ribbon Selection Committee evaluating the final five candidates and ultimately choosing the winner. These Hall of Fame committees are made up of top college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, Sports Information Directors and Hall of Famers. The winner of the 2010 Bob Cousy Award presented by The Hartford will be presented at the Hall of Fame's Class Announcement on Monday April 5 in Indianapolis as part of NCAA Final Four weekend.
