2/22/2009 | Women's Golf
Ole Miss trails co-leaders “It was good to get the first round out of the way,” head coach Michele Drinkard said. We executed a lot of great shots, especially when the wind was blowing at its hardest. Tomorrow we need to take all of our positives from today and improve on getting through to the finish line.” Senior All-American Dori Carter is tied for fifth with a first round 73. A double-bogey on No. 4 left her at +3, but Carter finished the front nine with three birdies to get back to even. She bogeyed the 17th to finish at 73. She trails first-round leader, Junior Sara Grantham posted a 74, including three birdies and is tied for 12th. Rachel Ingram carded a 78 and Jillian Brodd turned in an 80 to round out the Rebel scoring. Ashley Lance had an 85, which didn’t count in the team’s total. With 43 teams in the field, this is the largest collegiate women’s event in the country. The event is also unique to collegiate golf as there will be a cut line of sorts. Each team is playing one round on Cougar Point and one round on Oak Point before a cut after the two rounds. The top 22 teams will play Cougar Point for the tournament championship, while the bottom 21 teams will be playing Oak Point for a flight championship. TEAM STANDINGS (Top 20) T1. T1. East 3.
