Kevin Stallings Postgame Quotes

2/7/2009 | Men's Basketball

Opening Comments:

“It was a game that we really desperately needed to have an opportunity to play for something other than our own pride and improvement. Our guys came out with a sense of urgency. I thought our defense in the second half as not as good as in the first half, but I like how we played and how we competed. I thought our bench gave us a boost in the second half. Lance [Goulbourne] hit a couple of threes and had a dunk.”

On Vanderbilt’s Play:

“We played better. We played reasonably confident at South Carolina. We didn’t win, but we showed some flashes. We played solid at Auburn and reasonably solid against Alabama. Maybe we’re starting to find our consistency.”

On Jermaine Beal and Brad Tinsley:

“We were very fortunate that Jermaine Beal and Brad Tinsley are well-conditioned athletes. They both have really good endurance. We got a break with George Drake being able to play today, which we didn’t expect. He showed courage by playing. It showed our toughness that Jermaine Beal played 40 minutes against Alabama and Brad Tinsley played 37 and today they played 36 and 34. They’re not showing any ill effects.”

On Brad Tinsley’s Performance:

“He’s a great player. He got off to his best start. He works hard and is a good teammate. We’re glad to have him.”

On Lance Goulbourne’s Performance:

“I didn’t give him much of a chance in the first half. Even when he was out there for us, he looked like he was in pain. He has a stress fracture in his pelvic bone. He only participates in about half of a practice and he’s hard to figure out sometimes.”
