3/19/2009 | Women's Tennis
“It was a solid win against a top 50 program, especially in their home city,” head coach Mark Beyers said. “We did a great job of competing. We made a nice comeback to win at three doubles to clinch the point. It’s a great effort anytime you do that. We followed that up with four solid singles wins. We are excited to advance to the finals.”
Ole Miss improved to 7-5 with the win and 7-1 when they win the doubles point. The Rebels won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles with Karen Nijssen and Kristi Boxx. The freshman duo of Gabriela Rangel and Abigail Guthrie clinched the point, erasing a 7-4 deficit at No. 3 to win 9-7. They are now 10-2 on the season.
In singles, Ole Miss gained straight set victories on courts one, two, four and five to secure the victory. First off the court, Abigail Guthrie downed Alexandra Demidova 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5 to move to 9-2 on the year.
