Kristi Boxx Named SEC Freshman Of The Week

The Grenada, Miss., native went 6-0 at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles to lead the Rebels to the inaugural Barnes Tennis Center Invitational title last week. In three matches, the Rebels only allowed three points.
Boxx, ranked No. 36 in the nation, did not drop a set in any of her matches, improving to 7-1 at No. 1 singles and 9-3 at No. 1 doubles. She has won 10 of her last 11 matches. In those 10 wins, she has only lost one set. Boxx leads the team with an overall record of 22-5.
With a 4-1 record in their last five matches, the Rebels (8-5) have now jumped to No. 35 in the latest Campbell/ITA Rankings released Tuesday. Two weeks ago, they were No. 67 and then last week they were No. 44.
“Obviously it’s a good day when you have the SEC Freshman of the Week and move up to No. 35 in the rankings,” head coach Mark Beyers said. “We have played well in our last five matches, and Kristi has been a big part of that success in singles and doubles. We are looking forward to another opportunity this weekend to improve on our ranking against a Top 25 opponent.”
The Rebels host No. 14 Florida Friday at 3 p.m., at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center. Incase of inclement weather, the match will be played indoors at the
