4/2/2009 | Women's Tennis

OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss women’s tennis team, ranked No. 27 in the nation, will face a pair of top 20 foes this weekend on the road.  The Rebels will take on 20th-ranked Kentucky Friday at 11 a.m. CT., Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex, followed by a match at No. 19 Vanderbilt Sunday at Noon.

The Rebels come into the weekend at 9-6 overall and 2-4 in the SEC.  They continue to be led by freshman Kristi Boxx, who moved up to No. 29 in singles and owns an 8-2 record at No. 1 singles, 4-2 in the SEC.

“We are excited to be ranked No. 27, and this weekend gives us another opportunity to pick up two quality wins,” head coach Mark Beyers said.  “We’ve been competitive in all our matches and we are looking forward to the challenge.”

Kentucky enters the weekend at 11-5 overall and with an identical 2-4 record in league play.  Freshman Caroline Lilley of the Wildcats currently leads the team in singles and doubles, as well as SEC play. Lilley holds a 12-3 singles mark, 4-2 in the SEC and is 8-3 with partner senior Carolina Escamilla.

Ole Miss will be going for its second straight win over the Wildcats, after knocking them off 4-3 last year in Oxford.
