Former Rebel Basketball Player Joe Kyles Passes Away

OXFORD, Miss. Former Rebel basketball player Joe Kyles, who played at Ole Miss from 1975-78, has passed away.

Kyles, 53, was recently identified as the victim of a March 16 fire in his hometown of Shaw, Miss.

In his four seasons as a letterman on the Ole Miss hoops squad, Kyles compiled 791 career points with 270 rebounds and 174 assists. As a senior, the 6-foot-2 guard averaged 13.9 points per game.

He was the son of Sylvester and Jessie Kyles. Survivors include his wife, Annie Kyles of Memphis, Tenn.; two daughters, Jacqueline Bee of Seffner, Fla., and Victoria Curry of Shaw; three sons Jeremy Kyles and Justin Kyles, both of Memphis, Tenn., and Roderick Curry of Atlanta; and one god-son.
