Britton Wins Eighth Straight, Advances To Third Round At Wimbledon

6/30/2009 | Men's Tennis

WIMBLEDON, England Ole Miss men’s tennis player Devin Britton won his eighth straight match on grass, defeating New Zealand’s Sebastian Lavie 6-4, 7-5 Tuesday, to reach the round of 16 at Wimbledon.

“Today it was all about two guys with big serves. He (Lavie) played well,” Britton said.  “I managed to take my chances in each set and come through. I’ve never played my next opponent before, but I’m enjoying playing on grass.”

The youngest ever NCAA Singles Champion will next face Tiago Fernandes of Brazil in the third round.  Britton, a native of Jackson, Miss., is one of four American men’s players left in the junior singles.

Britton is blogging throughout the championships.  To read his blog go to www.OleMissSports.com and click on the link in the story.
