Streaking Rebel Soccer Hosts ETSU, UALR This Weekend

9/10/2009 | Soccer

OXFORD, Miss. - Winners of each of their last three matches, the Ole Miss Rebels return to Oxford to host East Tennessee State University and the University of Arkansas-Little Rock this weekend at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.

Friday's ETSU match is slated for a 7 p.m. start, while the Rebels will square off against UALR on Sunday at 1 p.m. Admission is free.

Friday is "Take a Kid to the Game" Day, and fans will get a chance to make their own posters in the Fun Zone and win a prize. At halftime, all kids will be invited on the field to kick a goal for prizes. On Sunday, Ole Miss celebrates "Grandparents Day" and fans who show up early will receive a complimentary ice cream sundae served up by the Rebel Crew.

Ole Miss is 3-1 on the season and enters the weekend with a three-game winning streak after victories over Morehead State (3-0), Jackson State (6-0) and No. 24 Memphis (1-0). The Rebels climbed to No. 7 in this week's South Region rankings by the NSCAA.

"We're glad to return home after a great win over Memphis last weekend," said Rebel head coach Steve Holeman. "Now the challenge is to bring that same intensity against a pair of teams that are not natural rivals and are not nationally ranked like Memphis was. The girls have worked really hard this week and I think they will be ready."

The Rebel defense has been particularly impressive in the three shutouts and has surrendered just one goal and 19 shot attempts all season. Sophomore goalkeeper Alley Ronaldi ranks third in the Southeastern Conference with a 0.29 goals-against average and fourth with two shutouts.

Junior Taylor Cunningham and freshman Arielle Cohen lead the offensive attack and rank among the SEC leaders with three goals and seven points apiece. Sophomore Kendyl Mygatt has recorded two goals on two shots, while sophomore Kelsey Breathitt leads the team with 14 shot attempts and has a goal and an assist to her credit.

The ETSU Buccaneers come in with a 1-4 record, with three one-goal defeats among their losses. Senior Jordan Monty tops the squad with a pair of goals, while Terri Miller and Jessica Huntington have each contributed a goal.

UALR enters the weekend with a 2-3 mark after securing a 2-0 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Wednesday. Christina Veasley leads the Trojans with three goals on the year, while Danielle Dunsworth and Rachael Maina have each contributed a goal and an assist.

The Rebels own a 1-0 record against ETSU, having earned a 2-0 victory at home in 2006. Ole Miss is 5-1 all-time against UALR, including a current four-match win streak dating back to 1997.
