OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss announced today a plan to perform a major upgrade to existing video boards as well as install new scoreboards in several athletics venues.
"We are excited about the new video boards for basketball, baseball and softball as well as new scoreboards for indoor and outdoor tennis," says Ole Miss Senior Executive Associate Athletics Director John Hartwell. "Video and LED displays are an integral piece to our continued and concentrated effort to enhance the game day experience in all of our sports for our student-athletes, coaches and fans."
C.M. Tad Smith Coliseum will see upgrades with a unique centerhung display, featuring four LED video displays measuring approximately seven feet high by 13 feet wide. Two ring displays are also part of the centerhung structure and will be able to show a variety of graphics, animations and statistical information. Overall the display will measure approximately 17 feet high by 24 feet wide and will also feature four dedicated scoring sections. In addition, Daktronics will be providing a custom sound system for the arena.
Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field will be home to a new video display that will utilize Daktronics newest LED technology, featuring a tighter resolution and improved image quality. The display will measure approximately 23 feet high by 36 feet wide. This technology and its control system allow for complete flexibility in programming. The video board can operate as a single giant display or be divided into multiple zones (windows) to show a wide variety of statistics, information, graphics, animation and live and recorded video.
The Ole Miss Softball Complex will soon feature a LED video display. The display measures approximately 13 feet high by 23 feet wide and will have the ability to showcase live and recorded video images, animation and graphics with incredible brightness and wide-angle visibility.
The Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center will receive a tennis scoreboard with an electronic message display, as well as six single court tennis scoreboards, while the Gillom Sports Center will receive three custom outdoor tennis scoreboards.
Finally, two double-faced marquees will be installed at major intersections on campus and will feature Daktronics video messaging technology. Students, athletes, faculty and fans will be informed of upcoming events and other on-campus activities through superior graphic images and wide viewing angles.
"Daktronics is excited to partner with the University of Mississippi to bring our state-of-the-art scoring and video equipment to their campus," said Jay Parker, Daktronics national sales manager. "These new systems will provide excitement and entertainment at Ole Miss athletics venues for years to come."
These exciting upgrades and additions are scheduled to be complete by January 1, 2011.
