OXFORD, Miss. - Looking to build on its success from last year, the Ole Miss Rebel basketball team officially begins preseason practice Friday in preparation for the 2010-11 season.
Andy Kennedy's team is coming off a 24-11 campaign in 2009-10 which saw the Rebels claim a Southeastern Conference Western Division Championship and make a run to the NIT Final Four at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Six players return from last year's team, including the SEC's second-leading returning scorer Chris Warren, who averaged 17.2 points per game last year. He is on pace to break several school records as a senior, including most 3-pointers in a career. Senior Zach Graham, juniors Trevor Gaskins and Terrance Henry and sophomores Reginald Buckner and Will Bogan also return, all with starting experience.
The NCAA allows teams to begin fall practice at 5 p.m. CT on Friday, and the Rebels will hold their first preseason session at the Basketball Practice Facility at that time. This is the first year the team is able to utilize its new $13 million facility for preseason workouts.
While practices are closed to the public, fans will have a chance to meet the Ole Miss players and coaches and get posters, schedule cards and autographs in The Grove on Saturday, Oct. 30, prior to the Auburn football game.
Ole Miss hosts an exhibition game against Delta State at 6 p.m. on Nov. 5 (free admission) before kicking off the regular season on Nov. 12 against Arkansas State at 7 p.m. in Oxford.
